With the first sitting fortnight of the 48th Parliament concluded, we have a clearer view of the parliamentarians who will play a key role in shaping healthcare policy.
The Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Disability has confirmed it’s ten members, with Dr Mike Freelander returning as it’s Chair.
The Albanese Government has also advised it will break with tradition and not offer the Deputy Chair role to a member of the Federal Opposition, instead the role will be taken up by a member of the crossbench. This leaves a two-horse race between Dr Monique Ryan or Dr Sophie Scamps.
The Committee’s membership is as follows:
The Committee is one of the youngest in terms of experience, with two parliamentarians in their first term in Ali France and Alice Jordan-Baird, and six further members in only their second term.
This means there is an important opportunity to educate and advocate for the issues you care about.
